STUDIO.

Swallo  is a London-based design studio committed to the transformative power of material research.

Our goal is to investigate, innovate, and reveal the extraordinary potential of humble materials.

Our inaguaral exploration takes a look at jute, a vegetable fibre known  for its silky golden-brown hue.
It represents nature's paradox: delicate yet incredibly durable, rustic yet refined, humble yet undeniably luxurious.

'ABOUT GBO'

'GBO' is a jute rug series that creates patterns inspired by geographical lines and landscapes to unravel the aesthetic truth behind the fibers. By reintroducing this material through this lens we reveal it's untold layers where ecology, craft, and design converge to  produce a deluxe grade textile document.

Col.1  is inspired by the geographical lines and regional landmarks in Igbo land (Eastern Nigeria), featured in a variety of local hues.

'GBO' is a term given to an elderly statesman in some regions of Eastern Nigeria, lending a sense of heritage and legacy to this collection. It is also a poignant play on words with 'IGBO', the region that is the focus of our inaugural collection.

An oval jute rug called Jiko II. The rug pattern mimics the confluence of the river Niger and Benue that meet at the bank in Onitsha, Eastern Nigeria. Jiko means hold together or confluence. An oval jute rug in blue and white sand.A jute rug called ALA that mimics the palm plantations in eastern Nigeria's Owerri state. This rug is designed by Kelechi Ejikeme for Swallo.
